The Christie NHS Foundation Trust Annual Report & Accounts 2021-22

Our generous supporters

The Christie Charity provides funds to The Christie NHS Foundation Trust to ensure cancer patients receive the highest level of treatment and care and have access to world leading research and equipment. The funds raised each year provide vital flexible income which allows the Trust to fund its major capital programme, support its world class clinical research, purchase innovative equipment and also provide a range of practical, emotional and social support projects for patients and their loved ones which is over and above what is ordinarily available through NHS funding. Although COVID-19 has continued to have a destructive impact on the fundraising sector, we have made many leaps forward with our levels of activity. To sit alongside our usual event portfolio, we introduced the Christie challenge where we asked supporters to take part in 6 sponsored activities throughout the year and participants received our limited edition medal which has six parts to be collected. Our wonderful supporters raised £180,000 this year from this activity. In July we hosted an exclusive drive-in event at Arley Hall to show the never been seen before filming of the live stage show of Early Doors. Writers of the show Craig Cash and Phil Mealey gifted the screening to The Christie Charity. Actors from the show attended and took part in a live Q & A. Hundreds of fans were able to get tickets to this special event. In the later part of the year, COVID-19 restrictions were eased and we were able to reinstate most of our sporting events. Supporters ran, walked, cycled and sky dived

and between them raised a huge £1.5m. The Manchester to Blackpool bike ride in July was very popular once again and raised a huge £164,000. From October to February, we were the charity beneficiary for the Van Gogh exhibition at Media City. 175,000 people went to see the exhibition and saw the work that The Christie does, and we raised £67,200. Our very committed Christie fundraising groups were able to start some of their activities again and we saw our corporate supporters signing up to our showcase online events. We were absolutely thrilled to be able to host our Christmas Carol concert at Manchester Cathedral and once again this was very popular and sold out within a week! This year our dedicated supporters have raised a whopping £13.2m. A large part of the fundraising activity had to be carried out in just a six-month period when the COVID-19 restrictions were eased which just proves how wonderfully loyal and committed our supporters are as they definitely rose to the challenge! Our dedicated supporters help to ensure our patients and their families receive the best care and treatment and help us remain at the forefront of cancer research advancements. We really do value everything that our supporters do and we couldn’t achieve everything we do without them.
