Huge thanks to The School of Oncology for its assistance! Team HPB taking a leap of faith for charity! Team HPB/NET will be taking a leap from 11,000 feet in September as it takes on an exhilarating Skydive for Team Christie. A team of eight Christie staff from the Oncology department will take on the jump, they will get to freefall at 120mph whilst they glide down through the clouds with spectacular views all around, whilst raising vital funds towards ongoing research into hepatobiliary and pancreatic cancers. Each member of the team has their own personal motivations for taking part in the skydive. One team member said “The diagnosis for these cancers are associated with exceptionally poor outcomes resulting in short survival and diminished quality of life, and this has not improved significantly over the last five years. Pop the kettle on for The Christie

June 18th saw staff, patients and volunteers come together in support of The Christie with the charity’s annual Cuppa for The Christie Day. Activities took place throughout the hospital where staff, visitors and patients in wards, departments and in the garden joined in the celebrations.

Manchester singer Jo Farrow entertained in the hospital garden whilst attendees enjoyed a cup of tea and slices of cake and viewed the items and

information on offer from some of the charity fundraising groups such as The Women’s Trust fund, Tender Loving Care and Altrincham and Sale. As always, Christie Bear was in attendance making the most of his time with supporters and taking the opportunity to experience a little piece of The Christie art room by learning to silk paint with our artist in residence Pat Mountford. Volunteers at the May Draper tea bar enjoyed the day whilst serving a special selection of cakes and drinks to visitors and out-patients that were not able to get out to the garden. A highlight of the day was being able to bring the event to a number of inpatient wards around the hospital. Staff had gone to great lengths to make sure that the atmosphere carried through to wards where afternoon tea provided by the catering department was served in Cuppa themed day rooms. Staff and patients at our Salford and Oldham sites also enjoyed the day with their own Cuppa for The Christie events. Thank you to everyone who attended, however you were able to be involved you helped make the day a huge success.
