 Annual survey confirms we are among the best

The Christie was ranked best in the country for five questions answered by the 618 patients who completed the survey: • Getting enough support from health and social care professionals to help recover and manage condition (7.9) • Taking family or home situation into account when planning discharge (8.7) • Family or someone close getting all information to be able to care for patient (8.1) annual 2018/19 national inpatient survey published recently by the health regulator, the Care Quality Commission. • Given information on who to contact if worried about condition or treatment after discharge (9.7) • Getting enough to drink (9.9) There were also significant improvements on six questions from the previous year’s survey relating to the ‘leaving hospital’ section: • Getting answers from doctors that patients understood (9.3) • Getting enough emotional support from staff during stay (8.4) • Given enough privacy when discussing condition or treatment (9.3) • Given written information about what to do and not to do after discharge (7.8) • Taking family or home situation into account when planning discharge (8.7) • Family or someone close getting all information to be able to care for patient (8.1)

Now in its 16th year, the survey shows how 148 NHS trusts in England score against each other by looking at different aspects of the inpatient experience including the hospital and ward, doctors and nurses, care and treatment, and operations and procedures. The Trust scored ‘better’ than most other trusts in all of the section scores.
