The Wellbeing Space is a specifically tailored cancer support group which combines both clinical and psychological support alongside sessions from expert speakers, delivered in a relaxed, informal and safe space. The group explores topics such as diet, mindfulness and relaxation, intimacy and sexual function and more. They also provide signposting to other services such as lymphedema specialists. The need for The Wellbeing Space was first identified from patient feedback which highlighted that at the end of medical treatment they felt there was a gap in care, and subsequently felt lost, isolated and anxious. Patients describe how the programme helps them move from just ‘existing’ between hospital appointments to ‘living’ their life again.
Groups are led by psychology lead Dr Kate Harrison alongside Rachel Byrne, Survivorship Project Lead, and Dr Didier Danillon. This team ensures that both the psychological and medical side of cancer are considered holistically. incredibly comforting especially as we were able to talk/ask questions/ laugh and cry in an uncensored and non-judgemental environment. I feel so much better and stronger for having been on the course. Thank you. ” – Patient feedback, The Wellbeing Space
In January 2020, The Christie Private Care Psychology and Wellbeing Team are launching The Wellbeing Space Starting Point. These will be one off sessions for new patients and their families to explore what support The Christie Private Care can provide throughout their treatment and beyond.
