EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Introduction

The Integrated Performance, Quality & Finance report presents a summary dashboard that provides an overview of performance.

Safe • No serious incidents were reported in August. There were 7 incidents reported in August, all reported with the classification of moderate, details of which can be found on slide 8. All the incidents are still progressing through to full root cause analysis. No never events were reported in month. • There are 5 Trust level risks scored at 15+. Details of these can be found on slide 12. • Safer staffing numbers have met the required acuity levels to ensure appropriate levels of safety and care for our patients. Indicative staffing, in line with nursing establishments, is set to maintain a 1:6 nurse to patient ratio. On occasion this has been extended to 1:8 which is in line with recommended national staffing ratios. However, at these times there have been no reported patient safety incidents. Responsive • Following the significant improvement against the 62 day standard in July, the August position has dropped significantly. The 62 day standard has not been met with a performance of 71.3%, subject to validation. The 62 day unvalidated upgrade performance is much closer to the standard with a performance of 84.8%. The internal 24 day target is at 79.6%. All 62 and 24 day breaches are reviewed to ensure any delays are understood and plans can be implemented to mitigate any future delays. All 31 day targets and 18 week RTT standards have been achieved in August subject to validation. Performance against the CWT thresholds is constantly monitored. • Referrals in August reduced slightly from July but remain high. The overall trend continues to be significantly higher than the 21/22 average. • Activity levels are now monitored against agreed 22/23 plan. As at month 5 Chemotherapy deliveries and radiotherapy fractions along with non elective spells continue to be above plan whilst all other points of delivery are either on plan or tracking slightly below plan. Effective • There were 7 cases of C-Difficile, 4 cases of E-Coli, 1 case of Klebsiella & 1 case of MSSA in August that were deemed attributable to the Trust. No lapses in care have been identified. • There were no cases of hospital acquired nosocomial Covid-19 infections in August. • Staff absence levels slightly up in month. • There continues to be improvement against the essential training threshold and PDR performance has slightly reduced from July. Well – Led • The trust is reporting a month 5 position of £57k surplus compared to a breakeven plan within the latest plan submission of an annual break even control total. • The month 5 I&E deficit is £7,384k, prior to adjusting for donated depreciation, charitably funded capital donations, donated grant income, donated consumables, transfers by absorption and impairments. • The cash balance is £173,646k. • Performance to month 5 is £423k (1.5%) above the proposed plan submitted to NHSE&I. Certain schemes are ahead of plan but are balanced by, in particular, the IFRS 16 leases which were anticipated to be contractually entered into but are yet to be committed. 34
