Staff understand and are adequately trained in safe systems of working, including donning, and doffing of PPE

Centralised training records evidence PPE training of staff providing care and are in line with the organisations PPE policy. (See PPE policy). A live fit testing register complete with the associated masks is also available centrally on the trust intranet. See Central fit testing record – accessed 14/01/22). The trust has responded quickly to disseminate rapid changes in practices over the course of the pandemic and have provided training and kept local training records. Training has been delivered by the clinical skills team and Practice Education Facilitators (PEFs) to support the IPC team. To prevent self-contamination of virus' and bacteria, additional donning and doffing training sessions has been delivered during the pandemic by the IPC team. Information is available on the COVID-19 section of the trust intranet utilising links to the latest guidelines and videos as well as departmental communications. (See donning and doffing quick guides). A fit testing programme has been in place throughout the pandemic with designated trainers and ‘live’ centralised documentation of the masks they are trained on. Workforce have a system to report and monitor illness and absence related to COVID-19 via a central reporting portal accessed on the intranet or the staff app from mobile devices. Further email support is provided from a generic email address; the-christie.staffcovid19absence@nhs.net Staff absence is reported daily to the sitrep / operational huddle; twice daily during periods of high community prevalence and escalating absence.
