Robust policies and procedures are in place for the identification of and management of outbreaks of infection. This includes the documented recording of an outbreak.

Robust policies, procedures and review of outbreaks are in line with the trusts outbreak policy and reviews undertaken in outbreak meetings when required and the trusts NIPR meetings. Minutes from each outbreak meeting and the daily changes are documented. COVID-19 outbreaks are reported internally so the executive team have oversite and to UKHSA and on the national outbreak reporting system. RCA’s following outbreaks are undertaken, and learning shared amongst IPC, nursing forums and trust wide where applicable. All clinical waste is managed in accordance with the trusts waste management policy providing assurance of the processes in place for compliance with all waste and environmental legislation. See Waste Management Manual. PPE stock is available to all wards and departments. It is ordered and stored locally, with the addition of centrally stored stock maintained and monitored by the trusts Procurement team. In the initial phases of the pandemic PPE supplies were routinely reported at the daily sitreps. As supply issues are now more stable and consistent any issues would be reported by exception only.

All clinical waste and linen/laundry related to confirmed or suspected COVID-19 cases is handled, stored and managed in accordance with current national guidance. PPE stock is appropriately stored and accessible to staff who require it.
