That all emergency patients are tested for COVID-19 and other respiratory infections as appropriate on admission

Emergency admissions are tested on Day 1 (within 24hrs of admission) for COVID-19 and other respiratory infections in line with national guidance. Compliance to COVID Day 1 admission is reported via the weekly trust wide sitrep / operational huddle (See trust wide operational huddle slides 11/01/22). Compliance of testing for other respiratory infections is reported and monitored via the IPC NIPR Committee. In line with national guidance in patients are tested on Days 1.3.7 and every 7 days thereafter. Patients that develop symptoms in between these days are retested upon onset of symptoms, resulting in earlier detection and management of a potential respiratory infection and reduce the risks of onward transmission. In patients are tested on Days 1, 3, 7 in line with national guidance and then every 7 days thereafter or earlier if symptomatic. A clear process for testing in patients is in place with compliance reported at the trust wide sitrep / operational huddle. See trust wide operational huddle slides 11/01/22 and Standard Operation Procedure for Patient COVID-19 Testing on Wards. The trust does not have high nosocomial rates of COVID-19. Close monitoring of in-patient results is undertaken, with prompt and relevant action if higher prevalence were to be noted. In this instance all tested in the area of higher prevalence would be tested. The Divisional Head and Deputy Head of Nursing & AHP’s attend bi-weekly GM discharge meetings to support the implementation of frequently changing GM national guidance within the trust. That those inpatients who go on to develop symptoms of respiratory infection/COVID-19 after admission are retested at the point symptoms arise That all emergency admissions who test negative on admission are retested for COVID-19 on day 3 of admission, and again between 5-7 days post admission

That sites with high nosocomial rates should consider testing COVID-19 negative patients daily

That those being discharged to a care home are tested for COVID- 19, 48 hours prior to discharge (unless they have tested positive within the previous 90 days), and result is communicated to receiving
