Patients attending for outpatient appointments, elective and emergency admission are screened prior to entering the hospital. Emergency admissions outside of the hospital are initially triaged via a telephone hotline assessment. All patients presenting to patient/visitor screening entrances are assessed in line with the Operational Service Specification for the Oak Road Screening Service (see above) before proceeding to clinical assessment where a COVID-19 assessment is undertaken and documented within CWP. See CWP COVID-19 assessment proforma. Patients attending for planned appointments are screened and swabbed for respiratory infections and COVID-19 prior to treatment. Patients attended for emergency admission are triaged via telephone prior to attending the trust for respiratory symptoms so bed allocation and patient flow can be managed appropriately. Those patients suspected of respiratory infection inclusive of COVID-19 are admitted as a suspected infection

Screening for COVID-19 is undertaken prior to attendance wherever possible to enable early recognition and to clinically assess patients prior to any patient attending a healthcare environment. Front door areas have appropriate triaging arrangements in place to cohort patients with possible or confirmed COVID-19/ other respiratory infection symptoms and segregation of cases to minimise the risk of cross-infection as per national guidance. Triage is undertaken by clinical staff who are trained and competent in the clinical case definition and patient is allocated appropriate pathway as soon as

Patient/visitor entrance areas have undergone environment changes to appropriately accommodate the COVID-19 triage, assessment and cohorting functionality of the facilities to minimise the risk of potential cross infection.
