The road improvement works at Wilmslow Road associated with the tiered car park have been completed and facilitate easier and safer pedestrian crossing to the hospital’s Wilmslow Road entrance. Other schemes currently under construction include the installation of radiotherapy equipment at Oldham and development of the outpatient pharmacy on the Withington site and this is currently anticipated to open in April/May 2023. A number of schemes are at the planning and pre-construction stages including the Targeted Investment Fund Wards to create improved ward accommodation within the existing estate, the replacement of radiotherapy equipment in Salford, the replacement of two CT scanners in radiology and the charity funded Art Room renovation. In addition, the proposed Advanced Imaging and Scanning Centre development along Wilmslow Road is at the pre-planning and briefing stages. There has been a lot of engagement with the competition from across the Trust, with teams from endocrinology, supportive care, outreach, surgical theatre, radiotherapy and anaesthesia all working on projects to make things they do more environmentally sustainable. Each team will present their findings to members of the board at the end of January. The winners will receive £500 to spend on future green projects. Responsible Director – Deputy CEO Responsible Assurance Committee - Audit Greater Manchester System The Greater Manchester health and social care system remains under immense operational pressure at all levels. In December the system was in a state of heightened escalation (L4). This reflected the high numbers of patients waiting in A+E departments, long ambulance hand over times, high bed occupancy rates (98%), and high numbers of people awaiting discharge from hospital but unable to return home or to social care facilities. Elective care backlogs also remain. For cancer care levels of referrals and diagnostic assessments have returned to or exceed pre pandemic levels but treatment capacity (predominantly surgical) remains under pressure. Pressures from urgent care has led to some cancer operations at other hospitals being cancelled. We continue to offer the opportunity for hospitals across Greater Manchester to use facilities at The Christie where this enables patients to be treated within acceptable timescales. Responsible Director – Director of Strategy, with Chief Operating Officer for system performance issues and Deputy CEO for strategic issues. The CEO is the chair of the Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance Board. Responsible Assurance Committee - Board
