• New funding awards totalling £2.5 Million were obtained for the PROTIS trial from Cancer Research UK and the TOURIST trial from National Institute for Health Research-Health Technology Assessment (NIHR-HTA). PROTIS, led by Dr David Thomson will evaluate proton beam radiotherapy for treatment of sino-nasal (head and neck) cancer. TOURIST, led by Dr David Woolf and designed in collaboration with the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) Lung research group will define the impact of radiotherapy treatment in 1000 patients nationally with advanced, metastatic lung cancer. Enabling Innovation • November 2023: A joint working partnership with a Pharma partner has been established to improve follow up care for patients with breast cancer and utilising EPROMS • April 2022: A commissioned funding submission to NHSE for a Trusted Research Environment for real world data from patients treated with proton beam therapy Translational research • There are currently 60 active sample collection projects implemented by The Manchester Cancer Research Centre Biobank team led by Jane Rogan Peer -reviewed publications 2021 • Total ~ 400 (Selected publications Table 7) Research Excellence Framework (REF) • The University of Manchester REF return was submitted in March 2021; eight cancer specific research impact case studies of which 6 were directly attributable to Christie academic researchers. Results pending Spring 2022.
