- appointment of a dedicated project manager for radiology working within both R and I and radiology to expedite and coordinate research operations Activity and performance A high level of research activity was maintained through COVID after an initial dip in the second quarter of 2020 when clinical research was paused. A further pause for ~ 2 weeks occurred in late December 2022 (omicron wave). • The past year has seen a 35% increase in activity (Table 1) • The current research portfolio spans nearly 1000 studies, with 54% hosted for commercial sponsors and 75% reportable to NIHR (Table 2) • There has been a 400% increase in the number of patients screened for clinical trials of investigational medicinal products (complex studies) in the past year (Table 3) • The annual number of patients participating in interventional trials is recovering to pre–covid rates (Table 4) • The Christie has the highest activity of specialist cancer centres / trusts for performance in initiating clinical research, and delivery in recruiting to time and target has been maintained at 52.2% of studies; a rate slightly higher than other cancer centres and in line with expected for the mixed portfolio of clinical studies represented. (NIHR analyses data submitted quarterly - Table 5) • The Christie was the highest recruiting centre nationally for radiotherapy related clinical trials
