This year we have introduced custom made patient information folders that can hold all of the necessary information sheets, contact details, correspondence and copies of consent forms. The costs of design and production of these folders has been met by funding from the charity. The cost of the annual Patient Day (see section 4) has been met by funding from the Charity. 6.3 Introducing a health and wellbeing programme We recognise that the treatments are difficult and helping patients to be fitter physically and psychologically is an area that the charity can help with. For example, we have recently offered a health and wellbeing programme on a fitbit app that has demonstrated significant improvement in physical abilities before surgery. We will continue to assess how these impacts on length of stay in hospital, complications following surgery and short, medium- and long-term recovery and outcomes. With charitable donations we hope to offer this to all patients in our programme. 6.4 Establishing the CPOC Academy and Lab We have established a multi-disciplinary research programme in colorectal and peritoneal oncology as part of the proposed Paterson redevelopment at The Christie. This has involved the allocation of academic programmed activities as part of Consultant Surgeons job plans will allow formalisation of research and development enabling the academic status of the colorectal and peritoneal oncology centre (CPOC) to attain an academic international standing to complement its reputation as a leader in service delivery. We have also established a CPOC Lab at The Manchester Cancer Research Centre undertaking world-leading translational research in peritoneal tumours. This year we have sponsored 3 separate laboratory-based projects, with charitable funding supporting the costs of equipment and materials to allow the projects to go ahead.
